Community Engagement
Program Evaluation and Support Services
Faculty and students at UCI SOE are engaged with the community in a variety of ways that help support undergraduate learning, preK-12 learning, and program quality. Examples include the following:

Local
- Provide undergraduate coursework that deepens student understanding of research-based practices in teaching and learning outside the school day
- Provide undergraduate volunteers to local programs through course-embedded fieldwork experiences in which students engage in teaching and/or inquiry-based learning
- Consult with programs to support quality (provide link back to eval)
- Serve in advisory capacities to support program quality:
- Math CEO
- Samueli Academy
- Boys and Girls Club
Statewide
- Serve in advisory and consultant roles to the CDE, Samueli Foundation, programs and afterschool work groups on STEM, quality standards, SEL and evaluation
- Present at conferences (e.g. BOOST)
National
- Present research at conferences such as AERA and NAA
- Contribute research and research-based tools to deepen understanding of practices that support student participation, engagement and achievement
- Provide evidence of positive outcomes to support the case for continued federal and state funding
- Serve in advisory capacities to foundations

- Participate in a global community of afterschool providers and researchers through UC Links

Evaluation
Program Evaluation and Support Services
UC Irvine CASE offers a variety of evaluation services for afterschool and summer programs.

CASE also offers programs the opportunity to use The Afterschool Outcome Measures Online Toolbox, which was developed by UC Irvine. Using the Online Toolbox enables programs to compare their program data with hundreds of other programs on measures of program quality and students’ skill development and positive behavior using scales with well-established reliability and validity. Three types of surveys are available: student self-reports, program staff reports, and classroom teacher reports. Programs have the option of customizing their analyses and results to include program attendance and student background characteristics.
Services include:
- Working with programs to identify appropriate measures of student outcomes
- Collecting data using a variety of methods including online surveys, on-site observations, and interviews
- Analyzing data
- Reporting results
